Dr Margaret Leach graduated from the University of NSW in 1991, and completed her Physician, Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Endoscopy training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 1999, which included a year of research in motility and brain-gut interactions with Professor John Kellow. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (RACP) and accredited for Diagnostic, Therapeutic gastroscopies and colonoscopies, with the Conjoint Committee in Endoscopy. Dr Margaret Leach is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, the Australian Medical Association and the American Gastroenterological Association.

She is currently a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Mater Hospital, North Sydney; Dee Why Endoscopy Unit, Dee Why; and the Northern Beaches Hospital, Frenchs Forest. Dr Margaret Leach has provided Gastroenterological services in Western NSW from Dubbo once monthly since 2006. From 1999 to 2016 she was a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga.
